Hannah's Story
'It’s true when they say exercise releases endorphins, cos it does, it’s like a happy hormone.'
Hannah has lived with mental health problems since she was a child, spending occasional stints in psychiatric hospitals starting in her teens. Because of her depression, she has often felt demotivated and low, with exercise being the last thing she’d like to do. Happily, her partner Hayz has been there to encourage her to move more, even if just a little, and get out of the house. What started as going on short walks has gradually progressed to a range of activities that the two of them do together, which Hannah enjoys for more reasons than one.
How Hannah Gets Moving
Hannah and Hayz live near a park, which they’ve now taken to going on walks through to clear their heads and improve their moods. They’ve also started playing games of tennis on the public courts (when local measures permitted this activity), which they both find fun (even if sometimes exhausting). Hannah occasionally has to pause and sit for a rest when they’re out, and Hayz sticks with her and encourages her to get back up when she’s ready to. The enduring support, plus how good she feels afterward, help keep Hannah going.
