Get moving around the home
During this time, when we’re all spending more time at home, there are plenty of ways that you can get moving without needing to leave your house.
Activities you can do at home vary greatly and include very low-intensity options for moving more. Chair exercises, for instance, allow you to move and stretch your body while sitting down, making them suitable for most people. You can also do simple work-outs with equipment or objects you’d find in the home, like a small water bottle or a tin of beans. There are a number of videos endorsed by our charitable partners, as well as This Girl Can, which may be useful if you’re wanting to give home object workouts a go.
Some people find adding some variety to how they get active when they’re at home can keep things fun and more interesting. Ian usually does exercises in little chunks throughout the day using a few types of equipment, like resistance bands and ab wheels. But he’ll sometimes start the day with Tai Chi, which clears his head and makes him feel more relaxed.
There are a range of free videos and guides for how to get moving at home online. Check out one of the resources we have linked to get started. You can also find information about home exercises on our YouTube channel.
And there’s no need to stick to traditional exercises if you want to get moving around the house. Dancing to the radio or keeping moving around the kitchen while the pasta boils are perfectly good ways to move more as well. Zahoor has turned his love of dancing into a way to get moving in the living room, and he makes time to do it just because he likes it.
